In an increasingly urbanised world of eight billion people, our connection with nature is fading. In the face of climate change, biodiversity threats and environmental decline, sources of optimism are increasingly precious. But in the hardwood forests of the eastern United States, there is hope.
Exploring our complex relationship with trees and forests, Forested Future follows the individuals and communities who are working to restore the deep-rooted bond we share with nature. From foresters, artisans and ecologists to the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin, this gently inspiring documentary gives voice to the people whose sense of identity is inseparable from the forests of the Appalachian Mountains in which they live and work.
Through their stories, Forested Future considers whether the way we produce and use wood might be part of a solution to some of the most pressing problems we face. It asks if we can learn to see beyond the horizons of a single lifetime and embrace the traditions of harmonious stewardship, meeting our material needs by harnessing the regenerative power of nature.
